DigitalSports and Philbin’s Family Fitness and Athletic Training Center
were proud to honor 17 Montgomery County student-athletes from 10
schools in the Rockville-Gaithersburg area Sunday as part of its
Student Athlete of the Month program.

The honorees are chosen with help from Athletic Directors and Coaches from the respective schools.

Below is March’s class and some of the players’ many accomplishments:

Churchill
Girl: Angela Biciocchi, Sr., Lacrosse
Angela is the leading scorer for the undefeated Bulldogs, including score three goals in a win over Walter Johnson just this past Friday. She has also excelled in the classroom and is headed to Delaware to play lacrosse.
Boy: Griffin Farha, Sr., Lacrosse
Griffin has proven himself to be one of — if not the top — boys lacrosse goalie in Montgomery County this year. He has allowed just five goals per game this season despite having already played some of the toughest teams. Farha will attend LeHigh in the fall.

Gaithersburg
Boy: John Hallock, Soph., Baseball
Hallock threw a no-hitter against Watkins Mill in his first varsity start. He struck out eight while walking just one batter and has grown from there. Hallock posted a 4.0 GPA throughout his freshman year and is a member of the Spanish National Honor Society.

Magruder
Girl: Megan Mornini, Sr., Lacrosse
Megan is captain of Magruder’s girls lacrosse team and is second on the team in goals and first in assists. Megan also holds a 3.87 GPA, is editor-in-chief of Magruder’s award-winning yearbook and is the recipient of the Maryland State Department of Education Service Star Achievement Award for community service.
Boy: Brad Blum, Sr., Shortstop
Brad is batting .524 will 11 hits in 21 at-bats for the Colonels. The Golden Glove winner has a 3.5 weighted grade point average and partial academic scholarship to Stevenson University, where he will play baseball next year.

Northwest
Girl: Emily Forst, Soph., Softball
Emily is currently hitting .304 in her second year as Northwest’s starting catcher. She has two home runs in just six games and has thrown out nine runners already this season. Forst earned straight A’s for each of the three marking periods this year, including five honors courses.
Boy: Hassan Dixon, Jr., Track and Field
Hassan is one of the fastest runners in Montgomery County. He won the 55 and 300 Meter 4A West regional champion and helped Northwest win the 4-by-400 state championship. In just one year Hassan owns the Northwest record in the 300 and long jump. He holds a 3.9 GPA.

Quince Orchard
Girl: Alissa Peterson, Sr., Lacrosse
A team captain for the past two years, Peterson has more than 200 goals scored. She is also the team leader in ground balls, goals and caused turnovers. Peterson is also very active in her school and is an excellent student.
Boy: Tommy McCartin, Sr., Baseball
Heading into the week, McCartin was hitting .444 with four doubles, two homers and 10 RBI’s for perhaps the best baseball team in Montgomery County. He’s had had straight A’s four times and honor roll every quarter.

Richard Montgomery
Girl: Kristen Hutchinson, Jr., Softball
Hutchinson is 4-1 with 52 strike outs on the season with an ERA of 1.31.  She is also batting .350. Kristen also takes 2 AP classes and the remaining are honors courses.  She achieved straight A’s on her last report card.
Boy: Max Barnes, Jr., Lacrosse
Max scored a school record eight goals and two assists in the Rockets’ home opener against Wheaton. It marked a school record at Richard Montgomery. Max is in all honors and AP classes and has a weighted GPA of 3.59. He has logged over 340 hours of community service.

Rockville
Girl: Jennifer Cordero, Sr., Softball
A four-year starter and captain, Jenn is the lead-off batter with an .357 batting average and 5 RBI’s. At second base, Jenn has 16 put-outs and 6 assists so far for the season. She also carries a 3.57 GPA.
Boy: Kevin O’Brien, Jr., Lacrosse
Kevin has scored two goals as a defender for the rams. His academic accomplishments include being an honor roll student and being an active member in National Honors Society with a 3.63 GPA even with three AP classes.

Seneca Valley
Boy: Tyler Klitsch, Sr., Baseball
Klitsch was 3-0 before taking his first loss of the season against Damascus on Thursday. He also has one save and had a 1.42 ERA coming out of Spring Break. Klitsch has also excelled in the classroom at Seneca Valley.

Watkins Mill
Boy: Will Ludgate, Sr., Lacrosse
Will is currently third on Watkins Mill in scoring and 21st in total points for Montgomery County.  Will was given the Mike Tyler award for sportsmanship in 2008 and is an IB and AP student who holds a terrific GPA and plans to study engineering this fall.

Wootton
Girl: Erika Burns, Soph., Lacrosse
Erika is making a huge all-around contribution to a young Wootton girl’s lacrosse.  She can re-defend, score and transition the ball up the field. She has an overall GPA of 3.9 and has been on honor roll throughout high school.
Boy: Mike Cresham, Sr., Lacrosse
Cresham is a hard-shooting midfielder and one of the leading scorers for undefeated Wootton. Cresham also carries a 4.5 weighted GPA and is part of the National Honor Society. He will attend Tufts next year and study civil engineering while playing lacrosse and perhaps football.
